spotted the little cabin high on a hill
above the Susquehanna River.
It looked kind of neat. And...there
was a "For Sale sign" on the side of
the building.
We've always liked the back road
where it was built.
And, although it was quite a walk
downhill to the banks of the river,
that height was also a hint that
flooding should not be a problem.
But there was a problem.
The price was substantially higher
than we had in mind and it looked
like the owner was making some
improvements. Those, we figured,
would probably head off any plea
we might make to negotiate.
So we did nothing.
This week though, we decided to
have still another look. We keep
hearing it's a buyer's market when
it comes to housing so if the
property was still on the market,
the price may have come down.
I'll be willing to bet it has!
Problem is....the cabin isn't
there anymore! Although it is nearby.
Apparently our assumption that
it was safe from any flooding
danger was incorrect! We found
the place about a city block down
stream from it's cinder block
foundation and listing to one side!
Last September rising waters
from the Susquehanna turned the
cabin into a houseboat!
A mobile home on a lot next
door was demolished.
Looks like our hesitation turned
out to be a Godsend!
Like "they" say, be careful what
you wish for!
Hope you look before you leap
and that all your NEWS is good!
