The storm that ripped through our area Saturday
was nothing less than ugly!
It would have been bad under any circumstances.
But its timing, one year after the flooding of 2011,
made it look extra frighting to the victim's of last
September's disaster! And last year's flood was
UGLY!
A lot has happened in that year. And a lot of it
has been GOOD!
The Susquehanna actually presents a pleasant
scene as it flows along in front of West Pittston
homes that have been restored to their original
beauty. Many home owners have made an
impressive comeback as have a number of
business places in the borough. Just check the
photos I took on a drive through yesterday!
But it's not all good!
There's a bit of "BAD" to be seen too.
Dumpsters are still a common sight along
many side streets and construction vehicles are
parked everywhere! Fact is there's a lot of work
left to be done to renovate some homes and
bring some business places back.........IF...........
they're coming back!
An empty lot now fills the site where a local
bank once stood while the sign on a popular
restaurant still promises a comeback. I wonder
how long it might be till we smell the pizza
there?
I don't want as much in the borough as I
used to pre-September 2011.
Sidewalks covered in mud after the flood
have now been ripped up here and there to
replace sewer connections. And, where there's
work going on, you don't want to walk into
somebody carrying lumber or a chainsaw!
All in all the people in West Pittston have
done themselves proud, although there's a lot
left to do!
I hope they succeed and that all your NEWS
is good!
