Don't Chicken Out!

  I'm not sure I should even be telling you
about this unusual "holiday."  It might get
something started!
  Oh well.
  Today, May 14th, is "Dance like a
Chicken Day." It has become better known,
to those who know it at all, as the "Chicken
Dance Day."
   As long as we're letting the cat, or in this
case the chicken, out of the bag, you should
probably know the dance no wedding
these days is ever without was actually
written as  "Der Ententanz" (The Duck Dance)!
   It was created by  a Swiss accordion player
(that figures) named Werner Thomas of
Switzerland.
   He wrote it in the 1950's and the catchy
tune quickly became popular. Nobody seems
to know how it evolved from ducks to
chickens. And I certainly don't know why
it has become as traditional at weddings
as rice and old shoes tied to the back of
the lucky couple's get away car!
    And, for whatever the reason, we now
have National Chicken Dance Day.
    I suspect you know how you're
expected to celebrate!  So....get to it!
   Personally I prefer my chickens fried!
