"In The Town, No Scarlet Ribbons."
Schools closed early yesterday. Some
roads were said to be icy.
But when my wife and I headed out
for a doctors appointment we found the
streets just wet. That's all we needed!
One phone call and five people later
we were headed north to Tunkhannock
to visit one of our favorite Thrift stores.
All evidence of problem roads was
gone as we drove into Wyoming County.
Well.....almost gone.
That Thrift Shop we looked forward
to visiting had two signs on the front
door. One posted Tuesday hours as 9
till 5. The other read...Closed.
Oh well. There is another neat
Second hand shop downtown. We
headed for that.
The Main street is all decked out
for the holidays. And everywhere we
looked we saw Christmas trees, colored
lights, wreaths, and........"Closed" signs!
One hung prominently in that Second
hand shop we wanted to patronize.
Another hung on the door of the Frozen
Yogurt Shop we had patronized just
two days before.
The streets were clear, though wet
with rain. The kids and teachers were
out of school. But the town looked empty.
For just a minute I wondered if the
town folk might be at a wake for that
street walking turkey that got shot by
the game commission a week or so
back. He certainly wouldn't have
found any handouts yesterday!
Good thing none of the grandkids
were looking for Scarlet ribbons!!!!
We might have written the whole
trip off had it not been for a local
restaurant that braved the storm...that
is the rain....to open its doors!
It got our attention.......and our
business!
Hopefully,next time.the sun and
proprietors will be out and that all
your NEWS will be good!
