TOMATO TIME
TUESDAY, AUGUST 18TH.,2020
TOMAYTO / TOMAHTO
The virus has forced the cancellation
of all kinds of fairs and festivals throughout
our area.
Last year at about this time the final
preparations were being made for the
the annual Pittston Tomato Festival. The
4 day even drew some 50,000 people to
the city.
There was a huge parade, a 5K run,
arts and crafts, food of all kinds and, the
famous tomato fight where contestants
paid an entry fee to throw rotten tomatoes
at other players. All the proceeds went
to charity.
Locally grown tomatoes were also
judged for their size and quality and
the community will certainly be missing
the event this year.
However, since the pandemic has
turned things upside down...we've done
the same thing with our tomatoes. We'll just
have our own little festival. That way I'm
pretty much assured of having a winner
in this crop!
Hope you're well and that all your
NEWS is good!
