           THE PRETZEL!

  Today we pay tribute to one of our

favorite snack foods. The Pretzel!

Americans eat a lot of pretzels but

you should know this snack was

created in France in about 650AD!

The Germans quickly latched on

to the pretzel and for hundreds of

years you could find them in most

any German bakery. They do go good

with beer! It wasn't until 1850 that the

pretzel first came to the U.S. It was

first baked it Letitz Pennsylvania by

Julius Sturgis. His original bakery is

still there and open for tours. So, in a

sense, the American home of the pretzel

is right here in Pennsylvania! They come

in all sizes and shapes but no matter how

you twist it the pretzel remains one of

the world's favorite snack foods. Hope
