THE CUTTING EDGE!
Today we are saluting Edwin Beard
Bunning who, in a sense, changed our
weekends forever! It was this week, in
1830, that Edwin agreed to market his
new invention. The lawnmower! His
original device was rather large with
a roller following behind a spinning
blade of spinning knives. It was so
heavy a second handle was added in
the front so someone could pull the
mower while the other pushed it!
Let's be clear about this, Edwin's
mower was designed to cut the grass
on a golf course. Some where along
the line someone, perhaps his wife,
decided it would be good for the back
yard! And that's where mowers have
primarily been used ever since. Of
course we've come a long way from
Edwin's original design. Now we have
gas mowers that won't start and electric
mowers with which you can mow over
your own power cord! (Yep! We've done
that!). That said, hope you have a
manicured lawn, that you're well, and
that all your NEWS is good!
