DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE
If you remember that old advertising
jingle you may already know that this is
"National Chewing Gum Day!"
It was native Americans in New England
that started us on the habit. They were known
to chew the resin from the bark of Spruce
trees. Settlers pick up on the idea and then,
in 1848, a gentleman names John Curtis
marketed the first chewing gum under the
name "The State of Maine Pure Spruce
Gum." I used to but gum in what amounted
to a 5-pack but these days they come in
all sorts of shapes, sizes, and flavor packs.
They cost a lot more than back in the day
and don't come with Baseball cards. Of course
those were Bubble gum packages and bubble
gum has its own day. That's on February 3rd.
Dentists have expressed concern that too
much gum chewing can cause problems such
as getting fillings lose. I've heard they wanted
to get a group of dentists on TV to discuss the
subject. The show would be called "Top Gum!"
(Sorry about that!) Hope your gum is fresh and
all your NEWS is good!
