THE CRACKER NAME GAME!
What's in a name? Shakespeare
asked that question and sometimes
the answers may surprise you! Take
the Graham cracker for instance.
It's actually named after a man!
An evangelical minister, Sylvester
Graham, created the recipe for the
cracker in 1829. How about oyster
crackers. There's no oysters in them.
But at one time oysters were very
inexpensive and the cracker was
very popular with the stew made
from them. Then there was the fact
that the cracker had a resemblance
to an oyster shell. Hence they became
known as oyster crackers. Of the two,
however, the Graham cracker is most
everyone's favorite. Especially when
combined with some marshmallows
and chocolate to create S'mores,
a name that's just "Cracker Jack"
with most folks. Hope you're
enjoying your crackers, whatever
kind, and that all your NEWS is
good!
