On occasion I have had the happy responsibility
of driving my grandson home after school. I'm free
and it's a chance for us to spend a little time
together. And, I must admit, it's an interesting
experience!
During the last half hour most students sit inside
at their desks waiting for that final bell of the day.
During that same half hour, or maybe a little
longer, parents and grand parents jockey for a place
to park to wait for their kids! This challenge is
very similar to looking for a parking place in New
York City! There are a lot more cars than places
to park them!
The block in front of this particular school is
located along a very busy city street. Part of the
block is, technically, a "No Parking Zone." This
prohibition is complete ignored by the parking place
seekers and, fortunately, by Police patrols as well.
Of course your best chance for finding a spot
is to arrive as early as possible. If you're successful
you'll then need to find a way to occupy your
time!
I noticed some people with newspapers and
books in their hands as they sat waiting. Those who
do so every day have a great opportunity to catch
up on the day's news, finish their favorite novel or,
in my case, to listen to a favorite radio program.
I'm wondering if the school isn't missing
out on an opportunity here! I'm wondering if it
could offer some sort of special educational course
to all of those chauffeurs who wait on a daily basis!
Their cars could become class rooms! And the
school could charge tuition! A few students
could pass out then collect completed work sheets
to the waiting drivers,
Heck, a half hour a day over the course of a
4-year high school term would add up to a lot of
education! Maybe even a degree!
"Time Management" would be a perfect
course offering!
Of course those who fail would probably
have to come back and park in front of the school
during the summer!
Think I'll just stick with my radio programs!
