Sea/Food!
Our journey home from Vinalhaven in Maine began
Wednesday in a thick dense fog that covered the island
and cut visibility to zero across the Bay.
The eerie sound of the Ferry Boat's Fog horn was
the only thing cutting through the deep mist and an
occasional reduction in engine speed gave us a hint the
Captain had spotted something ahead on his radar screen.
But when we heard an exceptionally long blast on that
horn and felt the engines suddenly shift into reverse, we
knew something was all too close to our vessel!
And we were right. Still nearly invisible to the naked
eye a large motorized pleasure craft passed ahead of
our bow! A Million dollars may buy you a craft like
that but it doesn't make you a sailor!
After hitting the mainland again we were whizzing
through Maine when we came upon a small town with
a very long line of people standing in front of what
you might identify as a Hot Dog Stand.
M wife, however, realized the place as "Red's Eats",
a spot made famous on the Food Channel for it's quality
Lobster Rolls and Onion Rings. We felt we ought to
stop and check it out. Now we see why there are long
lines!
There is more than one whole lobster included in
one of these tasty delights. I don't understand why they
bother to include what amounts to a hot dog bun
underneath. My guess is that most of those get tossed!
The butter for you lobster roll is poured into small
containers from a Tea Pot. And the Onion rings are the
size of those circles you toss for a board game hanging
on the wall.
We waited about 45 minutes to get our serving an
it was well worth the wait!
I'm thinking of opening up a branch back home.
But I'm not sure I can get enough lobsters out of
the Susquehanna!
Hope you're out of the fog, well fed, and that all
your NEWS is good!
