BATTER UP!

   TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6th, 2020

                  BATTER UP!

I'm thinking baseball today and what better

day to do it? The first World Series game was

played on this date in 1882. The Cincinnati Red

Stockings defeated the Chicago White Stockings

4 to 0!  Another World Series milestone was set

on this date in 1926 when Babe Ruth became the

first player to hit three home runs in the Fall Classic!

I remember, when I was in school and the

Yankees were always the odds on favorite to win,

we had a television set on stage at my Junion High

School and most teachers allowed us to come out of

class to watch the games, They were all day games

back then. It's one of the things that's changed over

the years. That and the designated hitter. Most games

are played at night these days. But the biggest changes,

as you'd expect, came this year because of the virus!

The season was cut to just 60 games and the World

Series will all be played in one ball park, in

Arlington, Texas where a retractable roof should

guarantee no weather problems. The stadium holds

40,000 people but only about 25%, about 10,000,

will be allowed to watch in person. For the most

part, however, baseball remains unchanged. It will

likely survive this pandemic...as will we! Keep your

eye on the ball. Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good!
