A BLAST FROM THE PAST!
Today we are remembering a great scholar,
a great inventor, and a great humanitarian
named Alford who was born in Sweden.
He studied all over the world including one
year here in the United States. While here
he filed his first patent in England for a
Gas Meter. Chances are you may have one
at your home. By the time of his death he
had 355 patents! But he's best known for
the one he filed on this date in 1867!
Dynamite! Most of Alfred's inventions
involved explosives which were, of course,
used in warfare! When his brother was killed
a few years after the invention of dynamite
newspapers mistakenly printed an obituary
for Alfred. In them he was called "The Merchant
Of Death!" Very much alive and seeking to
restore his good name, Alfred devoted the bulk
of his fortune to an annual prize awarded to
efforts to promote peace. The Nobel Peace
Prize! And Alfred's efforts to promote peace
continue in the prize which bears his name
today! Just thought you ought to know! Hope
you're well and that all your NEWS is good!
