They Don't Build Them Like They Used Too!

You hear that a lot these days. "They just don't
build them like they used to."
The term can be applied to almost anything.
But it seems especially appropriate when it
comes to cars!
Yesterday a sign along the side of the road
alerted us to a Car Show in the small Schuylkill
County community of McAdoo. We took a chance,
and the turn, and went to check it out.
What we found was pretty impressive!
Collectors had gathered a great selection of
vintage automobiles and set they out to show them
off.
The first I spotted was a Crosley. That name
may still right a bell with some of you. You can
still by a Crosley refrigerator or freezer or a
Crosley "retro" radio which looks like an
appliance out of the 1940's but plays AM and FM
radio stations as well as cassettes and CD's.
But back in the day Crosley also built an
autmobile. A tiny car. Well ahead of it's time with
regard to fule economy.
You don't see many these days. Even at
Car shows. But this show had one and seeing it
makes one wonder where our Auto Industry might
be today if vehicles like the Crosley had survived and
were available before we heard of Hondas and the
like.
Of course there were plenty of "Muscle Cars:
too!
I even found a 68 Chevy Impala convertable
very much like the one I used to own a few years
back. Mine, however, was Lavender. You don't
see many like that around anymore either....a fact
which pleases my wife to no end!
What you head , over and over as we walked
around, was the sentence...."I used to have one like
that." Or..."I wish I still had my ..."  followed by
the year, make and model of a particular kind of
car.
My comments were pretty much limited to
"I'd like that one, and that one, and that one."
There were actually a few more "that ones" in
there.
If was fun to step back into our own
history for a little while and to realize.....at least
when it comes to cars......they truly just don't
build them like they used too!
Hope you've got some pleasant auto
memories and that all your NEWS is good!
