All The President's Men!
So, here I am again. In Canada. This time in
Ottawa.
Before leaving Quebec, a town everyone quickly
came to love, we got to tour places in and around
the city.
Our Scranton friends will be interested to know
We stopped by the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-Beaupre'
which has drawn visitors for over 350 years. A bit
before the ten day celebration in the Electric City
each year!
Then, nearby, our guide took us Montmorency
Falls where we rode the Pare de la Chute (Cable
car) some 272 feet (98.5 feet higher than Niagara
Falls) to a restaurant on top and got to walk over
the falls on a suspension foot bridge over the
cascading water!
A couple members of our party elected to take
the bus up and back. I thought about it for a moment
after realizing the French name for the Cable car
included the words "Pare" and "Chute." Ring a
bell? Oh well, I took a chance and enjoyed the
lift!
We spent part of the next day touring Quebec
itself.
The old part of the city is situated on the top
of cliffs and completely surrounded by a wall some
20 plus feet thick! That way it could never be
taken by the enemy.
Of course somebody forgot to tell that to the
British who scaled the walls and took the city.
That's why today it's a combination of French
and English design.
After the tour a combination of two VIA trains,
with two complete dinners, deserts, and a chocolate
treat, brought us to Ottawa.
And so, you might ask, since we're speaking of
the British and the French, where do the "Presidents"
come in? Thank you for asking.
I've been complaining all week that the ritzy, and
I do mean ritzy, hotels we've been staying in charge
nearly $14 a day to connect to the web.
I finally noticed, however, that the hotels all have
a "President's Club" that offers complimentary service.
So I asked about it...just in case. Well, it turns out
that membership is FREE. So, here I am, now one of
all the President's (Club) men! And I could have
joined the party three days ago! Dah!
Carry on troops.....and may all your NEWS be
good!
