WHAT'S "SHAKEN?"
Our Travelworld "Leaf Peepers Tour"
wrapped up Monday with a visit to the
Hancock Shaker village in Handcock,
Massachusetts. It's a living history museum
dedicated to the preservation of the legacy
of the Shakers, a utopian religious sect
that was self sufficent but did not allow
marriage. Since there were no childrren
the sect haad to depend on recruiting
believes from outside their community.
Eventually those efforts failed and the
sect pretty much died out in this
location. Visitors can tour the large
building that served as a warehouse,
kitchen, religious meeting room, and
dormitory which required a seperation
of men and women members. There's
also a large stone and wooden round banrn
which allowed "the brothers" to move
hay from their storage area to the livestock
simply my turning from the grain bin to
the cows. Interesting sights, lessons, as
well as food and entertainment on our
tour. I hope you enjoyed tagging along
by way of this Blog and that all your NEWS
is good!
