Seems Like Old Times

My wife and I were happy to be invited
to the annual WYOU/WBRE Christmas party
held at the new Mohegan Sun Convention
Center last night.
As is usually the case, we found ourselves
at a table filled, for the most part, with other
retired colleagues. Another old friend who still
has a couple of years to serve....I mean...to work
kept us company too.
It really works out well as, while we reminisce
about the "good old days", the wives can trade
horror stories about the nights we used to work
and holidays when we were on the job or trade
photos of the kids and grand kids.
I was able to catch up on things with former
photographers Jim Keenan and Joe Butash(who
is still on the job) as well as retired Assignment
Director Bobby Day.
Those three, however, failed to follow me
into the casino as our party came to an end. What
did they know. And when did they know it?
Big spender that I am I was immediately
drawn to the Penny Slots. I've played them before
and, since this was a night of remembering, I figured
these machines would be a "good bet."
The first ten dollars went in about 10 minutes.
By then I remembered what I was trying to
remember about these machines. I had lost on them
before! I put in another 10 just in case and hit a 6
dollar "jack pot." Realizing that I was now down by
only 4 bucks I decided to call it a night.
In my own way I considered that a "win!" I'll
have to try to remember that next time us "old
timers get together.
Hope the casino does great things with my 4
dollars and that all your NEWS is good!
