A Ride Into History!

My wife and I along with two very good
friends set out to visit one of my oldest
buddies in New York State on Wednesday!
The highlight of the visit is to be a train
excursion and a lake cruise.
But another high spot was to be a ride in
my Buddie's "new" car.
     I've mentioned it before. It's a 1924
Studebaker!
My buddy has always been a Studebaker
fan having owned a few in years gone by. None
of them, of course, were quite as old as this
'24 Model which is designed as a Taxi Cab.
Shortly after our arrival we decided to take
it "around the block" for a spin.
I suggested inviting our wives but my buddy
thought the three of us guys should give it a
go first!
It was like stepping back into history.....for
about 3 minutes and one half mile. That's when
it stalled out!
Now then trick was to get this 5300 pound solid
steel and hard wood vehicle turned around and
back that half mile to my buddy's house!
The specs on the Studebaker will tell you the
vehicle has 90 horse power. We could have used
a couple of those horses! But, since none were
available we three mules (some might use another
term) put our shoulders to the wheel (we now
know what that means) and pushed the car till
we got to a small hill at which point it began to
coast by its self.
That's when we learned what the running boards
are for! You run and jump on the boards in the hope
the car won't roll away without you!
Of course what goes up must come down.
The opposite is true when you're at the bottom
of a hill. And that's exactly where we were!
Fortunately my other friend was the close
enough to retrieve his Chevy truck and, with the
help of a tow rope, the Studebaker made it back
home!
Seems we only made one mistake!
We should have invited the wives.....to help us
push!
Hope every thing's running smooth for you and
that all your NEWS is good!
