FRUGAL FUN!

   SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2022

              FRUGAL FUN!

    Welcome to October everybody and

to "Frugal Fun Day!" It's always observed

on the first Saturday of October and the

mission of this unusual holiday is to get

everyone to have fun. But the trick is to

have that fun without spending any more

than five dollars! It's easier than you might

think. You just have to be creative. You

might consider flying a kite or, perhaps,

enjoying a hike in one of our many state

parks. Maybe a day of games with family

and friends. One suggestion involves

attending a concert. But, you'd have to

find a free one. There are a few around!

Maybe observing this special day will

help you start a habit. Finding ways to

have fun without forking out the bucks!

Hope it works for you and that all your

NEWS is good!

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE...

    FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2022

      DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE

If you remember that old advertising

jingle you may already know that this is

"National Chewing Gum Day!"

It was native Americans in New England

that started us on the habit. They were known

to chew the resin from the bark of Spruce

trees. Settlers pick up on the idea and then,

in 1848, a gentleman names John Curtis

marketed the first chewing gum under the

name "The State of Maine Pure Spruce

Gum." I used to but gum in what amounted

to a 5-pack but these days they come in

all sorts of shapes, sizes, and flavor packs.

They cost a lot more than back in the day

and don't come with Baseball cards. Of course

those were Bubble gum packages and bubble

gum has its own day. That's on February 3rd.

Dentists have expressed concern that too

much gum chewing can cause problems such

as getting fillings lose. I've heard they wanted

to get a group of dentists on TV to discuss the

subject. The show would be called "Top Gum!"

(Sorry about that!) Hope your gum is fresh and

all your NEWS is good!

CONFUCIUS SAY...

   THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2022

          CONFUCIUS SAY...

For those who might not know, September'29th

is "Confucius Day." Confucius was a real person.

He was a Chinese philosopher often considered

to be the paragon of Chinese sages, Ironically,

most of the "old sayings" often attributed to the

man are actually bits of contemporary advice

offered in the name of humor under his name.

For instance, Confucius say man running

ahead of a car will get tired. Confucius say

man running behind a car will get

exhusted! Some of his actual quotes have

been offered so often that he doesn't get the

credit he deserves. "You are what you think."

That's from Confucius! "Choose a job you

love and you will never gave to work a

day in your life." Also a saying from

Confucius! Some good, and very old advice.

Hope you're well. Confucius say..may all

your NEWS is good! (Oh, wait a minute.

That was me!)

ARE YOU READING THIS BLOG?

     WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH.  2022
             ARE YOU READING THIS?.

September 28th is "Ask A Stupid Question Day."
It was established by teachers back in the 80's
who were trying to encourage students to ask more
questions in the classroom.
It has often been said there is no such thing as a
stupid question. I would have to disagree. Some of
my colleagues in the media prove that on a daily
regular basis. Not that it's limited to them.
I often wondered why ,for instance, when you've
checked yourself into an emergency room, the first
thing the doctor asks is "How are you?"
How about the guy who drives up in a bright,
shiny car with the purchase sticker still on the
window who is greeted with questions such as
"Is that car new" or "is that yours?"
How about the boss who sees you come in
10 minutes after your starting time and asks
 "You're late, aren't you?"
Still those in the media usually get the Stupid
Question Award.
You see them at the scene of a fire, usually the
"Cub reporter" approaches the home owner and
asks "How are you doing?" I'm surprised more
haven't been answered with a slap upside the
 head!
Of course there's also the "hopeful reporter"
who asks the alleged killer "Did you do it?"
They're hoping for a stupid answer such as
"Sure I did and I wanted you to be the first
 to know."
Then there;s the ultimate, no win, stupid
question. "Are you still beating your wife?"
In any case today all bets are off! You can
ask anything you want. In fact it is suppose
to be stupid! So ask away!
Hope you get a sensible answer and that
all your NEWS is good!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUGLE!

    TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2022

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUGLE!

According to my list of unusual holidays

this is Goggle's birthday. Goggle, of course,

is that "search site" many of us use to get

information on just about any subject you

can think of! Before Goggle we had to

depend on finding facts in Encyclopedia

Britannica or Funk and Wagnall's. These

days one just calls up Goggle on one's

laptop or Smartphone to get the

information. And in the case of a friend

who doesn't have access to Goggle, I

have one, the friend simply asks you to

look it up! But don't believe all the

answers you get! For instance, Goggle

took me to the Unusual Holidays Site

on which I found Goggle's September

27th Birthday. But when I actually

Goggled Goggle's Birthday I was

told it was September 4th!!! Wonder

if my encyclopedia knows for sure?

Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good!

MUCH TO DO ABOUT FALL!

     MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2022

        MUCH TO DO ABOUT FALL!

A funny thing happened while I was on

vacation for a gfew days. Fall arrived. But

not just on the calender! Realistically! The

temperatures dropped. The wind picked up

and the rain came down. Fall can be a very

nice time of the year. Calm and relaxing!\

Except for the "To Do List" my wife keeps

for the changing season!  There's plastic

screens that have to be put up around the

front porch. Those went up yesterday. There's

a bird bath and picnoc table that have to be

moved and, in the case of the bird bath,

stored away. The picnic table and that bird

bath are heavy enough to be used by weight

lifters in place of dumb bells. And I suspect

this "Dumb bell" will be moving them

within the next couple days. There are two

air conditioners that have be be lifted out

of their window settings to e put into

storage. And that's just the start of the

list. The bottom line is, either I'll have

to do the work or we'll have to call

somebody. Right now I'm looking

for the telephone!! Hope you're well

and that all your NEWS is good!

GETTING AHEAD OF MYSELF!

    SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2022

    GETTING AHEAD OF MYSELF!

Talk about getting  head start on a

celebration! Thursday evening my wife

and I and my buddy Bob enjoyed two

lobsters apeace at our shart vacation on

Vinalhaven Islaand, Maine. Now it turns

out that today is "National Lobster Day!"

IK should point out there are two such

days. Another is observed in June, But

the U.S. Senate gave its approval to th

September 25th "National Lobster Day."

Of course Lobsters are a little less

expensive in Maine. I decided to build

my own trap with a big cardboard ox.

There's a hole in the front the losters

can get in...but not out! Perry clever I

think. Now...which pond, creek, or

river around here has lobsters? Perhaps

I may still have a problem! In any case

I hope you are well and that all your

NEWS is good!

OUR DINNER VISITORS!

    SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2022

         OUR DINNER VISITORS!

We had some visitors at our vacation

cottage on Vinalhaven Island Friday. The

first was Bob Warren. He brought some

"friends" along. I don't know their names

but, in this case, names were not important.

We were happy to have them and immediately

invited for dinner! First we treated them to

a steam bath at our expense. Within a short time

they appeared very embarsed. That is to say they

were all red! So, we carried them to the dinner

table where we consumed them! Oh, did I

mention they were lobsters!? Very large lobsters!

We each had two. They, or their kind anyway, are

welcome back anytime! Hope you're well and

that all yoru NEWS is good!

A RAINY DAY ROUTINE!

   FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2022

       A RAINY DAY ROUTINE!

It rained! In fact it rained very hard

and all day here on Vinalhaven Island!

One might think there's little to do for

visitors on an island in a rainstorm. But

that is not the case. Take the cottage where

we're staying for example. There are books

to read. There are jig saw puzzles waiting

for their pieces to be assembled. There's

a TV hooked to a dvd player. Hence movies

to watch. There;s always a little inside

maintainance work to be done and tools to

do the work. There's always a "Things to do list"

to be checked off. So you see, there's plenty

to do even with the rain pouring down

outside. I reviewed the list several times

and made a decision! I took a nap!

Hope you're dry, well, and that all your

NEWS is good!

THE ISLAND

    SEPTEMBER 22, 2022

          THE ISLAND

My wife and I are visiting my old

friend Bob Biscombe at his family's

cottage on Vinalhaven Island off the

coast of Maine. We have been coming

for several years and are always surprised

by how easy life is, at least for those

coming to visit. The setting inspired me

to write a poem a year or two ago and I'd

like to share that with you today as my

blog. It's called "The Island."

    Sometimes life, like ocean waves,

can take a heavy toll. Those times oft

find us searching, for a place to rest our

soul.

The island offers such a rest. It's

setting seems just right, Each day brings

calm tranquillity, as does each quiet night.

Time seems to slip by slowly there.

Not measured by the clock. But, rarther,

by the changing tide, and the shadows

on each dock.

The sea mist seems to pull from each,

our loving memories. While the sun's bright

rays bring promises, of what is yet to be.

The island waits for each of us, and

beckons us, once more, to put aside all

troubles.....and come back to its shore!

Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good.

ROAD TRIP MEMORIES!

     WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2022

             ROAD TRIP MEMORIES!

We pulled into a popular motel along Route

1 in Main Tuesday night. We'll have to be up

early to catch the ferry boat to Vinalhaven Island.

This particular motel, Moody's, brings back

memories of travel with my Mom and Dad when

motels started to spring up across our country.

These days travelers expect to fund a Holiday

Inn with swimming pools and work out rooms.

Perhaps even a continental breakfast. Moody's,

which opened in 1927, features a row of cabins

with beds, a bathroom/shower, a heater, and

a modern TV and microwave. Of course the

old motels, which also featured individual

cabins, didn't always have television as an

option. And microwaves were a thing of

science fiction in those days. No. No workout

room or pool here. But something must be

woking out for them. There's a "No Vacancy

Sign" most every night. And, this is their 95th

season!!! Hope you'll stop by sometime and

that all your NEWS is good!

WHERE'S DAVID?

   TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2022

               WHERE'S DAVID?

My wife and I set out on another

adventure Monday as we began a trip

to Maine to visit a friend. It's a long

two-day drive and we like to explore

different routes. But Monday's drive

became a bit difficult when our two

"direction finders," a Garmin and

Goggle couldn't seem to agree! Both

were programmed with the day's

destination but, on several occassions,

both gave us different directions. On

at least two occassions, one told us to

turn right whiule the other was insisting

we turn left. I found myself left with

an immediate decision that fell into my

hands somewhat like flipping a coin.

These modern day guidence systems

ended up driving me nuts! So, where's

David? I'm right here in what seems to

be the capital of the State of Confusion!

Hope you know where you are and that

all your NEWS is good!

AN "OLDER" HOLIDAY!

    MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2022

          AN "OLDER" HOLIDAY!

This is September 19th and it's an unofficial

holiday. At least it is unofficial here. This is

"Respect The Elderly Day." It is an official

holiday. But only in Japan where people have

been taught to respect their elders for many

years. It only became an official holiday

there in the 1960s and it was traditionally

observed on Septemberf 15. Then, Japan

borrowed an idea from us! They decided to

make this one of they "Happiness Days."

Those are days that have been moved from

traditional dates to certain Mondays. This

one now falls on the third Monday in

September. Just like our Uniform Monday

Holiday legislation which moved several of

our holidays to Mondays. The reason, of

course, is the same. To give workers three

day weekends every so often. I'm thinking

since they borrowed our Monday Holiday idea

we should borrow their holiday and have our

own Respect the Elders Day. I'm especially

anxious to endorse it after my Birthday this

past Saturday! Hope you'll joing in the

celebration and that all your NEWS is good!

LOOKING BACK AT THE BUTLER!

      SUNDAY, SEPTEMBETR 18, 2022

    LOOKING BACK AT THE BUTLER!

The Federal Government has taken the

Butler Tunnel off of the Superfund Site

List! For those who might not remember

the tunnel made the headlines back in the

1970's when toxic wastes, illegally dumped

at an area truck stop, found their way into

underground mines that drained, through the

Butler tunnel, into the Susquehanna River.

As bad as it was, for years, it could haave

been a lot worse! A local reporter who saw

the oil floating on the river decided to see

if it would burn and tossed a match into the

water! Fortunately it didn't burn! If it had

a toxic spill would have been futher complicated

by a burning river. Now that the tunnel shows no

signs of draining any more toxic wastes it has

been removed from the Superfund list. The

river is a little cleaner and a lot safer! Hope you;re

well and that all your NEWS, like that from the

Susquehanna, is good!

AND THE GAME GOES ON!

  SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2022

      AND THE GAME GOES ON

Well I've done it again my friends!

I've circled the sun! Today is my Birthday!

When I turned 75 I wrote about being in

"the last quarter" of this game of life. I

thought it was time for a follow up so I've

done one and set it to rhyme.

    THE GAME GOES ON!

I still here in the line up

as my game of life goes on.

  I realize it's 4th quarter.

And the time is nearly gone.

There's been a lot of sunshine

and, of course, a little rain.

But I still look forward to each play.

Cause I really love the game!

  I miss some fellow players

who have left the field of play.

But in my heart I'm certain

  that we'll meet again someday!

I've got to do the best I can

For a Win is not a lock.

And I can't afford to waste my time

For I cannot see the clock!

  I don't know if there's minutes left

Or years, or months, or days.

But I'll give the game the best I can

  In each and every play.

And when my game has ended

  I'm hoping you can tell

Not only just the final score.

But if I've played it well!

Thanks for following my posts and

Blogs! Hope all your NEWS is good!

BLOG ON THE ROCKS!

   FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2022

       BLOG ON THE ROCKS!

This is "Rock Collection Day!" It's

a great hobby. Rocks can be found

everywhere. They come in all shapes

and sizes! A whole industry was formed

around the black "rocks" that were mined

here in eastern Pennsylvania! A lot of

women like to collect rocks. They tend

to prefer those that sparkle and shine.

Boys tend to like the flat ones that are

easy to skip across ponds. I guess you

can't go wrong by collecting rocks. For

one thing, unlike baseball cards, Mom's

aren't likely to toss them out. You're

not suppose to throw rocks! Hope

you have a nice collection and that all

your NEWS is good!

I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE!

        THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2022

I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE!

I hear it through the grapevine. Or, rather, email.

The modern equivalent of the grapevine! Blue

Ridge Estate Winery was looking for a few

volunteers to help with a grape harvest. I was

intrigued. I've enjoyed the wines at these

vinyards so why not pitch in to help get somemore

made? My wife and I headed out firsty thing in

the morning and arrived even before a few staff

members and other volunteers showed up. The

assignment was to harvest as many of the Aromella

graps as possible. Their juices will enhance other

wine products naturally without adding sugar.

We were given shears with which to trim the

grapes from their vines (my wife, ever prepared,

brought her own). We were able to pitch in for

about an hour and our cuttings, coupled with

those of the other volunteers will produce

about 50 gallons of juice. It wasn't very

difficult and, in fact, proved to be a lot of

fun for the time we were there. I am still

convinced there is a huge vat somewhere

on the property where sdme bear-footed

women are waiting to mash those grapes

into a liquid form! No one would admit

to that! But I'm looking forward to

sampeling the new wine once it's

bottled and ready for comsumption!

Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good!

A RHYME TO REMEMBER!

   WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2022

          A RHYME TO REMEMBER!

I like poetry. It can be soothing and

relaxing. I've written a poem or two over

the years. But it's not likely any of my verses

will be long remembered. Others have\penned

poems that have become classics. Now and

then some have even been set to music. Frank

wrote a poem like that. And yet it wasn't

written under sooting or relaxing circumstances.

Quite the contrary! It was written during a war!

And yet is is well remembered and was, in fact

set to music. The poem was called "Defense of

Fort McHenry." "Frank" was Francis Scott Key.

And his poem, set to music, became "The Star

Spangled Banner!" He wrote it on this date in

1814! Hope you have a great day and that all

IF IT WEREN'T FOR BAD LUCK......

   TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2022

IF IT WEREN'T FOR BAD LUCK.....

My title is a line from a old song. "If'

it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at

all." Well this is a day to shake any bad

luck. In fact September 13th is "Defy

Superstition Day!" This is our opportunity

to break those superstitious beliefs that

most everyone has heard of and that

many believe. We are a superstitious

people! If you doubt it just try to find

a 13th floor in any high rise building!

So today we shake those superstitions!

I intend to do my part! I will walk

under a ladder. I will allow a black

cat to cross my path and I'll step on any

crack I happen to come across. I will

toss my rabbit's foot out the window

and I'm totally consident nothing

bad will happen! Knock on wood!

Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good!

GAME DAY!

     MONDAY, SE[TEMBER 12, 2022

                   GAME DAY!

    OK fans! It's September 12th, It's Game

Day. Don't worry about getting a good seat

in the stands. In fact you you don't even

have to get out of your chair. You see it's

"National Video Game Day!"  I guess you

could say it started back in 1958 with a

simple table tennis video game called

"Pong."  Since then there has been a wave

of various games like Nintendo, Atari, and

lots of variations of the XBox.

There are two schools of thought about

video games. One suggests they promote

one's mental agility and sharpens the

reflexes.  The other suggests video games

have taken kids away from the outside world

of fresh air and creative play.

I always favored  running around outdoors.

Of course, that;s when I could actually run!

Hope you enjoy what evre you're playing

and that all your NEWS is good.

AREN'T GRANDPARENTS GRAND!

    SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2022

   AREN'T GRANDPARENTS GRAND!

Just in case you didn't already know, this

is Grandparents Day! You know. Your Mom

and Dad's Mom and Dad! If you're lucky

enought to have grandparents around give

them a hug. Or a phone call to say "Hi!"

I never knew eithet of my grandfathers.

Both had passed long before I was born.

My Dad's Mom died when I was about

3 so most of my memories of her come

from photographs. My Mom's Mom, however,

lived in an apartment above our home till I

was in about 5th grade. I spent a lot of time

with her when I was in those grade school

years. We'd play dominos and checkers

and usually munch on some cheese. I've

tried to be a good grandpa to our six

grandkids (and several exchange students

who have become like grandkids to my

wife and me. I guess it's worked out OK

because I even got "promoted!" I was trying

to explain to our youngest grandson that my Dad

was his Great Grandfather. He insisted

that was me because, as he put it, "You're

great." I suppose, in that case, that does

make me a "Great Grandpa!" I hope that's

truly the case and that all your NEWS is

good!

THE DAY THE MINERS DIED!

     SATURDAY. SEPTEMBER 10, 2022

    THE DAY THE MINERS DIED!

The coal mines of northeastern Pennsylvania

clained thousands of lives during the heyday

of "King Coal!" But the 19 miners who died

on this day in 1897 weren't killed in a mining

accident. They were shot down by sheriff's

deputies in the small town of Lattimer, just

outside of Hazleton. Many of their fellow

miners were wounded in an even that has come aa

the Lattimer Massacre! Miners throughout the

area had been on strike for better pay and working

conditions. A large group of them were marching

to a mine in Lattimer in an attempt to get miners

there to join their strike.  Sheriff's deputies order

the men to disperse but they marched on and

the deputies opened fire. Most of the victims had

started to run away and were shot in the back!

Outrage over the shootings fuled efforts

to get other miners to join the United Mine

Worker's Union and eventually led to higher

pay and improved working conditions. It

happened on this day in 1897.  An area

event that should be remembered! Hope you do

and that all your NEWS is good!

TRY DIFFERENT!

    FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2022

              TRY DIFFERENT!

Today marks another one of those

unusual "holidays" I want you to know

about. This is "Opposite Day!" Today

you are encouraged to do the opposite

of what you normally do. Breathing,

of course, is an exception. Otherwise

give it a try. If you usually get out of

bed on the right side try getting out on

the left side. Little things like that can

add variety and maybe even a little

excitement to your daily life/ The idea

for this unusal holiday comes from a

very popular TV show. Sponge Bob

Squarepants! Hard to think of a more

impressive endorsemen t than that!

Hope you're try a little "opposite"

and that all your NEWS is good!

A NO GOOD SO AND SO!

     THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2022

A NO GOOD SO AND SO!

I CAN REMEMBER A TIME WHEN IT

WAS EASY TO TELL THE GOOD GUYS

   FROM THE BAD GUYS.

   BASICALLY THE GOOD GUYS WORE

WHITE HATS AND THE BAD GUYS WORE

   BLACK ONES!

   AFTER WATCHING TELEVISION LAST

NIGHT IT LOOKS LIKE THE GOOD

   GUYS ARE ALL GONE!

YOU SEE THE TV IS CURRENTLY

   CROWDED WITH POLITICAL ADS.

BUT INSTEAD OF TELLING US WHY

   A PARTICULAR CANDIDATE SHOULD

   BE ELECTED....EVERY AD I SAW

   HAD THE CANDIDATE TELLING ME

   HOW BAD HIS OPPONENT IS!

IT'S SORT OF LIKE GROCERY STORE  "A"

   TELLING ME GROCERY STORE "B"

   NEVER HAS ANY CHOCOLATE MILK

INSTEAD OF TELLING ME ABOUT ITS

   OWN GREAT PRICES!

   I'M REMEMBERING AN OLD SAYING

"IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING GOOD

   ABOUT SOMEONE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING

   AT ALL."

IF ALL OUR CANDIDATES ADOPTED THAT

POLICY I GUESS WE WOULDN'T HAVE

   TO SIT THROUGH ANY POLITICAL

   COMMERCIALS THIS YEAR!

CAN'T SAY AS I'D MIND THAT AT ALL!

HOPE YOU'RE WELL AND THAT ALL YOUR

   NEWS IS GOOD!

GO TO IT!!!

   TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2022

                GET TO IT!!!

Seems there's a strange "holiday" for

everything.
Just the other day we observed
"Be Late For Something Day!"
      Today is "Fight Procrastination Day."
This is a day for getting things done!
The other thing I've got to get done
is cutting the grass. It's getting high again.
Mark Twain would say it's better to
get the job done then to put it off. But when
it comes to getting out the mower and cutting
all that grass ,which is still wet by the way,
I'm like Mark's character Huck Finn and would
prefer to go fishing.
Since I missed "Be late for something
Day" (or maybe I'm just very late) I guess
I'll have to follow Mr. Twain's advice and
get the job done.
Hope you'll get all your tasks
complete too so that all your NEWS is
good. (Then you can go fishing!)

FAIR WEATHER!

    MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2022

                FAIR WEATHER!

It's Labor Day. The unofficial end to

our summer season. But take heart! We

are now in the midst of the County Fair

Season! I spent a good part of Sunday at

the Wyoming County Fair near Tunkhannock.

It's a week long celebration featuring the

county's agriculture heritage. Young people

from throughout the area, most members of

4H organizations, show off the livestock

they've raised, hoping to win a Blue Ribbon,

then selling their animals at auction for

money mots use to help with their college

educations. There are all kinds of attractions

to be seen including an excellent rodeo!

There's food of all kinds, much of it home

made, vendors of all sorts, and, of course,

a midway filled with run rides. But these

fairs, with their entertainment, also serve as

community gathering places where families

from throughout the area and nearby get

together to enjoy life together. This us

Fair Season, Fair weather if you will.

Find one near you. Get out and enjoy

it with friends and family and, likely,

all your NEWS will be good!

TAILGATING!

     SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2021

                  TAILGATING!

Wait! This has nothing to do with

how close you;re driving to the dar in

front of you! This "tailgating" is a custom

that began in Green Bay in the early 1900's

when Packet football fans started showing

up a games in their vans and pickup trucks

to picnic outside the stadium before, during

and after games. That's how National Tailgating

day was born! It's usually observed the first

Tailgating Day which is always held the first

Saturday in September but, as we all know,

the practice now usually begins wit High School

football on Friday nights. It continues with college

games on Saturdays and right onto Pro Football on

Sundays. In my video blog I told husbands how to

tell their wives what to gather, prepare, and pack

for the truck or van so he could then snack and enjoy

the game.'

I ended with a shot of my empty tailgate and

suggested I should you preface that list with

a sincere "please!" I suggest you look at my

video version for a good laugh! Hope you do

and that all your NEWS is good.

LET'S MEET AT THE ALLEY!

  SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2022

     LET'S MEET AT THE ALLEY!

Welcome to September 3rd! It's "National

Bowling League Day!" It seems to me that

bowling isn't as big a thing as it used to be.

When I was growing up my home town had

a lot of places to go bowling. The last of them

closed earlier this year. I used to set pins at

the bowling alleys at the old YMCA. They,

and the "Y", are gone now too. You used to

be able to watch professional bowling every

week on television. And who can forget

"Bowling for Dollars?!"  Bowling is still a

great sport and a great way to get some

exercise.  And bowling Leagues are a great

way to bring people together. Those of you

who struck out Playing baseball will be more than

happy to collect a lot of strikes while bowling/

So, in honor of this unusual "holiday," if you've

got some 'spare' time why not join a local

bowling league. Those alleys are a great place

to hang out! Hope you're well and that all your

NEWS is good!

WHERE DID THE TIME GO?

    FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2022

WHERE DID THE TIME GO ?

Thet are expressions we use and hear

all the time. "Where did the time go? Time

really seems to fly by." And "The older we

get the quicker time seems to go by." But

if you think time is flying by now you should

have been around on this day in 1752! That

is the day Britian and all of its colonies,

including what is now the United States,

switched from the Julian to the Gregorian

calendar! When that change was made they

simply eliminated 11 days! So people literally

went from Wednesday, September 2nd to

Thursday, September 14th!!! The change

sparked riots in some places where people

complained the government had stolen 11

days of their life. As a senior citizen I tend

to agree. I may need those extra 11 days

sometime so I'm hoping I'll have access to

them when my time comes! Hope you're

well, have 11 days coming to you, and that

all your NEWS is good!
