SHELL SHOCKED!!!

SHELL SHOCKED!
I am truly shell shocked!
The news came out yesterday. The Planters
Company is killing off Mr. Peanut! It will happen
in a commercial running during the Super Bowl!
I, like many of you, remember the Mr.Peanut
character walking around Public Square in
Wilkes-Barre or on the boardwalk in Atlantic
City many years ago.
He was "born" here, as was the Planters
Peanut Company. Italian immigrant Amedeo
Obici founded the company in Wilkes-Barre
in 1906.
Ten years later a grade school student,
Antonio Gentile, won a contest by submitting
the idea for a mascot that became Mr. Peanut.
Planters, which is now a division of the
Kraft Food Company, officially confirmed
the demise of the 104-year-old icon, He
dies saving two friends in a commercial
to be run during the game and his "funeral"
will be held during the third quarter.
Reaction in social media has been
very negative, especially from people in
Mr. Peanut's "home area."
I always loved his product and
respected those individuals who earned
their living suiting up as Mr. Peanut and
walking around to greet the public.
With his top hat, cane, and eye
monocle he was the very symbol of
class and quality.
Turns out, after 104 years, he was
just too "brittle."
Hope they'll find a way to bring
him back and that all of your NEWS
is good.
