THANK YOU MR. GAYETTY!
It's December 8th., "Toilet Paper
Appreciation Day!" It was on this date
in 1857 that Joseph Gayetty began selling
toilet paper in the United States. There's
another similar day in August marking the
day in 1871 when the commodity was first
sold on a paper roll. In 1894 both forms
got some competition when the Sears
Catalog was published! "Splinter Free"
toilet paper didn't come along until 1935.
Guess you just had to take your chances up
till then. We had two paper producers
in our area up until last week. Cascade Company
shut down its Pittston Township factory on
Friday. Charmin still operates a huge plant
just outside Tunkhannock. Given the situation
in 2020 you'd think this would be Toilet Paper
Year! There's still a big demand so producers
are still.....cleanup up! Hope you've got a good
supply and that all your NEWS is good.
