THE "OTHER COUNTRY!"
Day two of our Travelworld Leaf Peepers
tour found us in Old Bennington, VT. at the
local museum. There's a fantastic collection
of area history there including a "Wasp" the
only automobile ever manufactured in VT!
It was hear we learned that for some 14 years,
before finally being admitted to the United
States, Vermont was, in essance, its own
country! It only became a state when West
Virgina was being considered for admission
to the Union as a "Slave state!" To strike a
balance, Vermont was admitted first as a
"Free state."
Our travels also took us to NH where we
boarded the "Turkey Train" on the
Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. Here
he sat and rode in a comfortable 1920's
era dinning car and were served a full course
turkey dinner as we enjoyed views of the
lake and colorful leaves!
