10 4 GOOD BUDDY!
It's amazing how much our technology
has changed in a fairly short amount of
time. My car dash has a unit that allows
me to make calls, get directions, check
the news and weather without ever taking my
hand off the steering wheel!
Back in the day the state of the art
communications gear in your car was a
Citizen's Band, or CB, Radio. I'm thinking
about it today because this is Citizen's Band
Radio Day. President Carter recognized it
back in 1987 and he picked October 4th
because it is the tenth month (10) and the
forth (4) day. CB'ers usually used the "10
Code" when communicating because numbers
are sometimes easier to understand than words.
10-4 means "OK." If someone asked "What's
your 10-20?", they were asking for your
location.
Ironically much of our technological
advancement dates back to another "10-4."
It was October 4th, 1957 when Russia launched
"Sputnik," the first satellite to orbit the earth.
The U.S. panicked! The Russians had beat us
into space. We eventually recaptured that
lead, landing men on the moon. And the
science that evolved from space exploration
gave us much of the technology we take
for granted today!
So 10-4 to you good buddy! Hope you're
well and that all your NEWS is good!
