A SHARP IDEA!
Today we are remembering a man who
most of you have never heard of but who
had a major impack in the world of
education. He wasn't a professor. He was,
by trade, a carpenter! But he was also an
inventor! His name was John Lee Love.
And on this day, in 1897, he
patened an invention that has been used
in the educational system ever since. It
was the hand cranked pencil sharpener!!
I've used one many a time. But I must
admit is was another invention, by
scientist Joseph Priestley, that helped
me get through school. It was on the other
end of those pencils. The eraser! Hope
