THE STRANGE TALE OF THE ESSEX!
The story began 201 years ago today. November
20th., 1820. It was the day the sailing vessel Essex
sank in the South Pacific. There were, initially, 20
survivors/ But only 8 lived to be rescued. And they
survived, in part, by turning to cannibalism! Even
if you never heard of the Essex you likely know
the basics of the story. You see the Essex was
sunk after being rammed by a Sperm Whale. It
was the inspiration for Herman Melville's novel
"Moby Dick!" And it happened on this day 201years
