TIME FOR A SPIN?

     TIME FOR A SPIN?

This is a pretty big day in music!

It was on this day in 1778 that Thomas

Edison first showed his new invention,

the phonograph, to the public! It wasn't

anything like the record players that you

usd to have, or still have, in your house!

The first phonograph recorded sound on

a roll of tin wrapped around a grooved

cylinder. Unfortunately the tin wore out

a little more each time it was used so

it eventually wore out completely. Or

course the science evolved and records

were made from vinyl and the players

became what most of you remember from the

30's and 40's up till today's versions. In

broadcasting we called the player unit

"turntables." Vinyl started to go out of

fashion as digital technology came along.

But it's made a big come back over the last

ten years or so. If you've got a record player

and and old record collection  this would

be an appropriate day to enjoy some music

with a "Thank you" to old Thomas Edison

who started the whole thing.  I've got my

Neil Sedaka playing "Calendar Girl" right

now!  Hope you'll enjoy some old records too

and that all your NEWS is good!.
