I'LL DRINK TO THAT!
It's January 3rd 2021! This is National
Drinking Straw Day! It marks the date in
1888 when Marvin C. Stone got a patent
on his paper drinking straw. Now drinking
straws have actually been around for a much
longer time. A drinking straw was discovered
in the tomb of a Samaritan dating back to
about 3,000 years BC! It was a gold tube
adorned with a blue jewel. Stone's paper
version may be making a come back. Environmental
concerns have produced an effort to abandon
our traditional plastic versions. Of course straws
can also be made of medal, glass, or silicone.
So, whatever happens, we're no where near the
