DON'T COUNT ON IT

  SUNDAY, APRIL 7TH., 2019
       DON'T COUNT ON IT!

I suspect this is one "holiday" most
of us will not be observing.
If there's one effective "wall" we've
built in the United States it's the one
that has kept the Metric system out!
April 7th is "Metric System Day."
    The metric system is an
international system of measurement
which was first adopted by France in
1791. Since it's a system very much
based of zeros I have no idea why it
is celebrated on the 7th of a month.
Let alone why April?
I remember when there was a big
push to try to get us to convert to
the metric system. It went over like
a ten kilo balloon!
It's bad enough for us to hear the
temperature outside is going to be
32 degrees. The thought we'd start
calling that zero and going down
from there was unacceptable.
      Of course some metrics have
made it over the wall from the
rest of the world. It's used extensively
in hospitals when medicine is often
administered by the centimeter.
       And since cars, even those
manufactured here, are sold all
over the world speedometers all
display our speed in both miles
and kilometers per hour. I like
to glance at the Kilometers per
hour reading when I'm doing 60mph
since it reads near 100!
        So, on this April 7th, here's a
toast (the beverage of your choice)
to the metric system. Have yourself
33.82 ounces. That's 1 Liter!
         Hope you've got all the
right measurements and that all your
NEWS is good!
