A Swinging Safari!

  We went on "Safari" Wednesday!
And, surprisingly, we were much closer
to Harrisburg than Africa!
It's kind of funny. We're always on the
go looking for adventures and attractions
and, usually, we're looking in places
like New York or New Jersey.
Who knew there were Lions, and Tigers,
and Bears in a "Safari setting" less than
two hours away from Wilkes-Barre?
   Oh My!!!!!!
   To answer my own question.....plenty
of people seemed to know about  the
"Lake Tobias Wildlife Park" near
Halifax, Pennsylvania because there
were car and bus loads of them there
when we arrived.
The late J.R. Tobias founded the park
on the same property where he was born and
raised. His family still runs the enterprise
which, they say, attracts some 130,000
visitors a year!
There you are, just out of the anthracite
coal fields and into an area where acres
of corn surround you, when you come
across the fences and huge gates that
will surely remind some of you of
"King Kong!"
There's no giant gorilla. But there's
hundreds of other animals and you get
to see many of them from a fleet of
camouflage painted buses that have
had their roofs removed for better views!
Many of the critters walk right up to
the sides of the vehicles looking for
handouts of bread or crackers.
I let the kids do the feeding.
I'm not interested in having a Bison
mistake my fingers for french fries!
Besides a good zoom lens can make
it seem like you're looking right into the
face of the MGM Lion!
Of course some of the more "dangerous
critters" are in cages.
I wanted to wait around to watch them
feed the "Man eating Tiger" but we had to
get going. Guess it's just as well. They
might have been looking for volunteers!
Actually, I'm the guy who got the
Buffalo Burger!
I have always liked "neat things."
      Lake Tobias is "neat!"
Hope you get to visit sometime and
that all your NEWS is good!
