AN AMAZING MIND!
I caught an old show on my new "smart tv"
yesterday. Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney!
A great ventriloquist, Winchell worked with
several characters on his national show. But
Winchell was a lot more than a ventriloquist!
He was a very successful inventor! There
are 30 patents filed under his name. They
include a flame-less cigarette lighter, an
illuminated ball point pen, a retractable
fountain pen, electrically heated gloves and
a device to detect when frozen foods have
gone bad. His most famous invention,
however, is the artificial heart! That's right.
Paul Winchell, working with Dr. Henry
Heimlich, the man who came up with the
"Heimlich Maneuver" invented the first
artificial human heart. It was patented in
1963. Paul Winchell. He was no dummy!
