            REMEMBER!

  It's Friday April 16th. This is "Save

The Elephants Day!" Seems the natural

herds of elephants around the world are

dwindling because of land development

and, most of all, poachers! For the last

ten years or so there's been a world wide

public information campaign to tell people

about the problem in the hope they'll help

fix it. The only elephant "herds" I ever saw

were part of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum,

and Bailey Circus. They were always a big

(in many ways) attraction until some people

started complaining they weren't well cared

for. As I'm stated before, I had occasion to be

"back stage" with many of the circus animals

when my Dad worked spotlight for the shows

at Madison Square Garden in New York. All

I ever saw was animals being treated like family

pets. Anyway the circus gave in to the complaints

and, within two years, the circus disappeared!

Talk about an endangered species! They say

elephants never forget. So today you're being 

encouraged to remember them and their plight!
