REMEMBERING THE SHOE BOX!
One of our former Pastors really put himself
to the test each Sunday and I'm remembering that
today. Each week a member of the congregation
would volunteer to take a shoe box home and place
anything that would fit inside. When Sunday came
around the shoe box would be handed to the pastor
would take out whatever was inside and find a way
to tie it into that week's sermon! It was an
interesting challenge, especially when the person
was able to find some rare object to place inside
the box. I can remember a bullet casing, a bar of
soap, and some sort of gadget that must have dated
back to the 18th century. Each week though, our pastor
was able to make a connection. Admittedly he occasionally
had to "stretch" things a bit to accomplish his goal but he
always pulled it off. I waited for an Easter service to
take my turn with the shoe box just to make it easy on
him, You see when he opened my shoe box....it was
empty! But, then again, so was the tomb!!!!!
Happy Easter! Hope all your NEWS is good!
