A Safe Combination!

        WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH

As Fall officially approaches it seems only
fitting to take a day to honor one of our Summertime
favorites.
While many could make an argument in favor of
Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, or Chevrolet.....
September 18th has been designated "National
Cheeseburger Day!"
The title is honorary and very likely created
by either the Beef or Dairy Industry as there's no
record of any Congressional action establishing
an official National Holiday!
That's too bad. It would be great to have a day
off just to go out and cook up or grab a
Cheeseburger! I like a day off for any reason!
It would seem that some of you have been
celebration already as 9,000 Cheeseburgers are
sold every second in the United States!
But official or not this is the day you're
encouraged to put one of these tasty treats on your
menu! And it's got to be a Cheeseburger! The
Hamburg has its own day....that will come on
May 28th next year!
If you're really interested you might want to
check Facebook where there's a "National
Cheeseburger Day Page" with more than 670
"Likes" and information about places all over
the country that are offering free or discounts
on cheeseburgers!
There are several theories about the origins of
the cheeseburger. One story claims that the
cheeseburger was created between 1924 and 1926
by a chef named Lionel Sternberger. As the story
goes, a homeless man dining at Sternberger's
restaurant in Pasadena, California, suggested the
addition of a slice of cheese to his hamburger
order. Sternberger complied, eventually added it
to his menu, and the rest is history.
I had always believed it was "invented" on
my Dad's charcoal grill when I was just a kid.
Of course that might have been the partly
charred Cheeseburger which is still my
speciality every time I play Chef!
Hope you'll have an order of fries with
yours and that all your NEWS is good!
