That Old Gang Of Mine!

     BLOG FOR SUNDAY, AUG 4th.

Back "in the day" I spent most of my weekend
time driving my son and, often, several other young
men to BMX bicycle race tracks throughout
northeastern Pennsylvania. They were all members
of a team sponsored by the fine folks at the Old
Mill Pine Bicycle and Hardware Store in West
Pittston.
I was the team Manager. It was an honorary
title although I did publish a team newsletter and
set up a screen tent for the boys at all the big races.
It was not unusual, on a typical Saturday, to
drive to a race in Honesdale in the morning, Athens
in the afternoon, and back to the Cedar BMX track
near Clarks Summit in the evening!
A lot of Sundays would start with a morning race
in York and an afternoon race in Pine Grove.
No wonder all my vehicles had so much mileage!
Last night three of those former Old Mill Pine
Team members, including my son, got together for
a race at the Cedar track. Another former team
member has been racing for the past two years.
It was just like old times. And to demonstrate
how old......one of the boys, excuse me, young
men, noted that the last time they raced together
as in the last century! Remember? The 19 hundreds!
We have all changed a bit since then. But, ironically,
the team member who made that remark was still
wearing one of the team jerseys he wore back then!
He was not only a good racer. He could fall off a
bike as artistically as anyone I've ever seen. He
proved it again last night! (He's OK by the way.)
I was reminded how great it is to get old friends
together when ever possible. You can't live in the
past! But it's a nice place to visit!
I expect these guys will now re-visit from time
to time! After all, riding a bike is a lot like riding a
bike...you never forget how!
Hope you've got your balance and that all your
NEWS is good!
