CARPE DIEM!

For those who never heard, or may
have forgotten this famous Latin
admonition, the message is  "Seize
the day!"
And if you can't come up with a
good excuse for taking this day off
or, at least, celebrating May first you
either have no imagination or are not
reading this blog!
I love holidays. And I love to call
attention to special observances that
aren't so well known. There's a mess
of them that fall on May 1st!
     I mean, everybody knows it's
May Day! Just don't say that if you've
speaking to anybody by radio!
May Day is an official holiday in
66 countries. It isn't here in the U.S.
even though it marks the anniversary
of a day when 300,000 workers
walked off the job as part of a labor
movement that lead to the 8-hour-day!
But if you're not into history, or
"worker's rights" you can choose from
a laundry list of  reasons to celebrate!
     May 1st is:
    Amtrak Day, Batman Day, Beltaine,
Childhood Depression Awareness Day,
Executive Coaching Day, Global Love
Day, Keep Kids Alive-Drive 25 Day,
Law Day, Lei Day, Loyalty Day,
Mother Goose Day, National Dance
Day, New Homeowner;s Day, School
Principal's Day, Silver Star Day,
Stepmother's Day, and World Asthma
Day!
Some are easier to observe than
others.
     For Mother Goose Day you're
suppose to "re-appreciate the old nursery
rhymes and feel the warmth of Mother
Goose's embrace."
For School Principal's Day I guess
you bring an apple for the Principal.
But I'm not too clear on how you
celebrate Batman Day or what's
expected of us in terms of marking
Amtrak Day! I'd take a train somewhere.
But they don't come here anymore!
I, at least, can celebrate the fact that
May 1st is the Birthday of my Grandson
Jason.
    I'm told he's 14 today which is
especially remarkable since I haven't
aged a day since he was born. (How's
that one Mother Goose?)
    Hope you're celebrating, no matter
what the reason, and that all of your
NEWS is good!
