Getting "Carded."

Just in case you didn't know, it's December
9th. National Christmas Card Day!
It's one of those unusual "holidays" that most
of us never heard of!
Its believed somebody came up with the day
to honor an English fellow, Sir Henry Cole, who
is credited with commissioning the very first
Christmas card in London back in 1843.
Christmas cards are still big business even
though many people have switched to cards sent
by email. You've probably been "carded" one way
or another by now!
I still enjoy finding cards in the mailbox at
this time of year, especially when they come from
folks we don't hear from all that much.
A couple years ago my wife and I decided to
something a little different with our Christmas
cards. It all started with a visit to the house in
Cleveland where the movie "A Christmas Story"
was shot. You know, the kid that wants the Red
Rider BB Gun for Christmas and the dad proudly
displays his "major award" in the front window!
We had our guide take a picture of us standing
at that window with the famous Leg Lamp between
us and turned it into our Christmas card that year.
Every year since we're tried to base our card on
a scene from that movie! It's a challenge. But it's
also a lot of fun! And sometimes surprising!
Last year we heard from some friends who, until
last December, had never seen the movie! They
must have thought we were nuts. And, who knows,
they may be right.
On the other hand, since at least one TV station
shows the movie 24 hours straight on Christmas Day
it's hard to believe there's anybody that hasn't seen it
by now!
Our latest effort is working its way to family
members through the U.S. Mail even as I write this
Blog. I'll send a copy via Facebook in a week or so.
Meanwhile I'll include a couple of our previous
ones here for your perusal!
Hope you've got your cards addressed, your
"Forever Stamps" ready, and that all your NEWS is
good!
