GETTING HIS GOAT!
My wife, daughter, and two of our
grandkids headed out for a Sunday
picnic yesterday. The end of summer
doesn't mean the end of outings for
our family. We just move the picnics
to a place where there's lots of
sunshine. a fireplace, or inside if
necessary.
Yesterday our journey took us to
Ritter's Farm where we picked up a
supply of donuts to enjoy with the
Potato Soup my wife had prepared
for the outing. The hot soup, jackets,
and sunshine kept us just warm
enough to eat at a picnic table, then
take in some of the farm's attractions.
That's where the goats come in!
Two of the critters were waiting in
a fenced off area where they welcomed
visitors. I suspect their enthusiasm
for people is based on the fact that
most of them, the people that is, bring
quarters to buy feed from a vending
machine which they then feed to the
goats.
My grandkids joined in the
feeding frenzy and offered their
feed to both of the animals. One
accepted the offering graciously.
The other, however, has apparently
learned that rather than lick the
food off people's hands, it's easy to
grab the small paper cup holding
the feed and yank it out of the hands
of the surprised people! It's almost
a case of biting the hands that feed
him!
One gentleman, and I use the
term advisedly, decided it would
be fun to put his head down close
to the fence and butt it a couple of
times. I think he was surprised when
the goat lowered its head and answered
the challenge....horns down! Luckily
the man had just moved away!
He had come very close to getting
his goat...the hard way!
Hope the goat gets his guy next
time... ....and that all your NEWS
is good!
