TIME TO SPRING FORWARD!

   SATURDAY, MARCH 10TH., 2018
     TIME TO SPRING FORWARD!

Well it's that time of year again! Time
to move our clocks ahead one hour as
Daylight Savings Time goes into effect.
    Now technically speaking you
shouldn't be preforming this task until
2am Sunday morning. That's when
DST officially begins.
But if you're able to stay up that
late, or early, to set a clock or
collection of clocks you've already got
too much time on your hands!
      You should know that Daylight
Savings Time is not an American
invention! Germany and Austria were
the first countries to use DST in 1916.
But a few hundred Canadians beat the
German Empire by 8 years. On July 1,
1908, the residents of Port Arthur, Ontario,
now known as Thunder Bay, turned their
clocks forward by 1 hour to start the world's
first DST period.
It's now used in more than 70 countries
around the world. The theory is that is
saves energy by reducing the use of
artificial lighting.
It is not observed in Hawaii and parts
of Arizona which makes it really interesting
if you're planning a trip there and are
trying to figure out what time it will be
when you arrive.
If you're tired of trying to mess with
all your clocks twice a year you may consider
a move to Florida. The legislature there has
proposed a bill that seeks to keep DST year
round! After all, the "Sunshine State" should
need a lot less artificial light anyway!
We have so many clocks, counting the
vehicles too, that I'll likely lose an additional
hour trying to set them all.
Guess I'd better get to bed by 10. Or
will that be 11?
Hope you don't lose any sleep over
this (Oh wait. You'll have to!) and that
all your NEWS is good!
