Before The Leftovers Were Left!

What was on your family dinner menu for
Easter?
A week or so before the big day we asked
one of the grand kids what he wanted on the
table that day.
       Without hesitation he answered "Turkey,
wrapped in bacon." Another grand child quickly
seconded that proposal. It sounded good to me
too.
        Another family member seemed shocked
by the decision favoring, instead, an Easter ham!
We elected to go with a compromise.
         One turkey. One ham.
Apparently most families favor ham for the
holiday.
I say that because, as we quickly learned, it
was very difficult to buy a turkey big enough to
feed our family. We finally found one and had to
have the market set it aside so we were sure we
could get it.
Hams, on the other hand, seemed  to be available
in all sizes.
We ended up with a 21 pound turkey and a 10
pound ham.
That's 31 pounds of meat for our crew of
 13 people.....8 adults, 12 kids, and 1 toddler!
That's 2.3 pounds per person assuming the
baby ate her fair share.
And it does not include the mashed or sweet
potatoes, the asparagus, stuffing, raisin sauce,
croissants, or corn. Or the bacon the kids wanted
wrapped over top of the turkey! Or the desert
pies that waited for the end of the feast.
It does also not take into account the fact
that the kids had access to all sorts of Easter candy
for approximately 6 hours prior to the dinner
serving!
I know I did my share! I'm walking much
slower today!
There are, as you might expect, leftovers.
So, when everyone is ready, our gang can
enjoy a bit more turkey, or ham, or remnants of
all of the other "eats" I described above.
All, that is, except for one item!
As far as I can determine there was no
leftover bacon!
Looks like that very first "order" was
appreciated by somebody!
Hope you had a great meal, a great
Easter, and that all your NEWS is good!
