Historical Haunts!

A bus load of New Jersey tourists will be heading
for northeastern Pennsylvania this Sunday!
You might think they'd be headed for Mohegan
Sun's Casino or, perhaps, to take in the Fall
Foliage!
    Not so!
These visitors will be joining nearly a thousand
other folks who will be touring the Dunmore
Cemetery as guests of a group called "The Dearly
Departed Players."
Those players, in period costume, highlight the
lives of some of the prominent people buried
there.
It's one of several tours that have become very
popular October attractions!
On October 21st another group will lead a
walking tour around some of the mansions
in Scranton's historic Green Ridge neighborhood.
This Saturday afternoon the Luzerne County
Historical Society will welcome visitors to the
Hollenback Cemetery.
And on the 13th my good friend Bill Lewis
will conduct a "Ghost Tour" through downtown
Wilkes-Barre.
Bill is well aware that several of the city's
oldest, and most historical, properties  have
some strange and unexplained "spooky stories"
associated with their history.
The cemetery tours were set up to highlight
the history, rather than the "haunts" of the burial
grounds.
But, be honest. Who doesn't give a thought or
two to "ghosts" when you're walking through a
cemetery?
And is it just coincidence that all these tours
are held in October when Halloween
decorations are showing up everywhere?
And isn't it great to know that some body's
final resting place........maybe yours......may
someday become a big tourist attraction!?
Hey I'm already looking forward to
visiting Roseville, Michigan to see that shed
where they say Jimmy Hoffa was buried!
Hope no one plans to visit OUR sites
anytime soon, and that all your NEWS is
good!
