Those were the days my friend......

My wife and I took a trip down memory lane last
night!
  We went to a reunion!
Not one of those high school or college reunions.
This was sort of a "Who's Who reunion."
Or,perhaps more accurately, a "Who Was reunion!"
It was the annual  get together for people who worked
at WDAU TV! You know it now as WYOU!
We called it all kinds of things over the years,
"Newscene 22." "Action News," "TV 22," and a
few that employees used that  never actually got on the
air.
Many of you, especially those who claim "Senior
status," would recognize some of the names and faces
at our reunion.
I know a lot of people say "Hi" to me as I walk
through Scranton. Some, of course, are still under
the impression that I'm Tom Powell, the late WDAU
News Director. Fame is fleeting!
Sue Miller was there. Sue and I were the reporters
called out one early morning 30 years ago to cover the
story of the George Banks mass murders.
Bill Mecca showed up for the fun! He covered some
major stories for Channel 22. Yet I remember him for a
bit of video tape I have showing him riding the miniature
train at the  old Nay Aug Park amusement ride area.
Derry Bird, Don Perry, Phil Cummings, and Bob
Reynolds, who served his time at WDAU before defecting
to WNEP in 1980, were in attendance as was Dave
Kuharchik who was at Channel 22 after it became WYOU,
left, and has returned.
There were plenty of "unsung heroes" as well!
Many of the Sales, Production, Cameramen, and Office
Staff workers who worked behind the scenes to make it
possible for those of us "on the air" to bring the old WDAU
News into your homes.
Given what they sometimes had to work with they all
qualify as magicians for delivering a daily newscast against
what often looked like impossible odds!
We all had stories from "the old days." But few are for
public consumption!  Come to think of it...none of them
are!
      Now, we must be honest.
We all looked just a little older!
But that's because we're all now in High Definition!
I think we all looked happy too!
But that's to be expected when "family" gets together!
Hope you have old and good friends that get together
now and then....and that all your NEWS is good!
