Sanctuary!
SUNDAY/MONDAY MARCH 10-11TH
Our Sunday turned out to be very, very
busy! Seems there just weren't enough
hours in the day! Oh,wait a minute, we
did lose one of those hours didn't we?
I looked all over for it. But, so far,
it's no where in sight.
After church my wife, sister-in law
and I traveled to Sarasota.
That's the place where the famous
statue "Unconditional Surrender" has
been returned to its place at Island
Park.
The statue was crafted after a photo
taken the day World War II ended.
Last year an elderly woman driver
nearly knocked it to the ground when
she used it as a bumper for her car.
She was probably going shopping!
But more on that in a minute.
It's also near a place called Saint
Armands Circle.
That's where we met up with another
three gals, two of whom traveled with
us on our western tour last year.
So there I was. One lone man with
five women in an area loaded with
restaurants and places to....SHOP!
This was not your usual Walmart
kind of shopping! This was Shopping
at the Post Graduate level!
I counted three jewelry shops
in the seven store fronts immediately
in front of us!
Some things can be very expensive
here! But the shoppers seem to come
from all ranks of society.
A combination of shorts, Capri's,
and even some long slacks like mine
were common. So too were the men,
most older, like me, being dragged...
no let's make that encouraged...to
accompany the gals into as many shops
as possible. Once inside you are
required to look at as many items as
possible whether you have any need
or enough money for them or not.
Still, it is a truly beautiful
place, especially if you, like me
and a handful of other men, were
able to find "sanctuary."
It came in the form of a comfortable
bench where you can sit and wait..and
wait...for the ladies to either pick
what they want or, better yet, decide
they haven't yet found that perfect
gift or souvenir even though it's time
to go home!
Hope you're got a sanctuary somewhere
and that all your NEWS is good
.
