Children Of The Corn (and apples, and donuts)

Some of the gang said they were hungry
after our dinner at the Chinese Buffet, So we
headed out to Ritter's Orchards near Mount
Cobb to check out the apple crop!
      Several hundred people apparently had
the same idea because we found the parking
lot filled with people! Of course the folks at
Ritter's have turned Fall into a major event!
       My grandson and grand daughter
immediately set out to get some rotten apples!
Why rotten ones you may ask?  Well, those
are the ones you use in the Sling Slot!
Large rubber lines have been strung
between fence poles. With apples affixed,
the kids stretch the lines tight, then catapult
the fruit towards targets 30 or more yards
away! My grand daughter actually hit the
bell in the distance thereby winning three
additional apples to launch!
There is also a Corn Maze waiting for
those willing to take the walk through and,
hopefully, back out!
         There are animals, pony rides,
a plethora of pumpkins and then.....the
cider and donuts! In fact there are apple
cider donuts!
           The Food Network could probably
to an extensive episode on the goodies on
hand. Visitors are allowed to watch the
process of apples being crushed, turned into
pulp, and then into cider. I always thought
it just came in a gallon jug!
It's possible to put on three pounds
just imaging all the tasty treats available!
It all makes Fall a lot easier to take!
I'd like to sneak back to take a crack
at the slingshot myself!
Hope you're finding ways to enjoy
the season and that all your NEWS is good!
