Seek, and They Shall Sign!

I signed a petition yesterday. A friend at
church asked us to sign in an attempt to
allow a German family to remain in the
United States so they can continue to 'Home
School" their children..That's illegal in
Deutschland!
It sounded like a good cause so I jumped
on the web to add my name to the 72.691
who had already signed.
It takes 100,000 to get the petition seen
at the White House. Not approved mind
you! Just seen.
What really surprised me, however, was
seeing some of the other petitions looking
for supporters! There are some doozies!
One, for instance, asks that "Instant
United States Citizenship be granted to any
Mexican who can make a killer fish taco."
4,284 people have already signed!
Over 3800 people have signed a petition
to get rid of all coins, ten and fifty dollar
bills, and butterscotch hard candies!
572 people are asking for a National
R2/D2 Day!
And while only 881 people have signed
a petition asking that commercial flights to
Cuba be allowed, 1,895 are asking that
actor Nicholas Cage be given the Declaration
of Independence!
That may explain why 100,000 signatures
are needed to get a petition considered!
There is one petition that could get us all
an extra day off! With only 92,651 more
signatures a move to make Fred Rogers
March 20th Birthday a National Holiday
could be considered! That would certainly
make for a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
There's also a petition to make the Metric
System standard in the United States. You'll
have to forgive me...but...didn't that effort
fall flat on its centimeter face long about
1981?
I guess the bottom line is....if you've got
a good cause, or even a nutty one, just get
999,999 of your friends to sign a petition
and, who knows, it could get an OK from
Uncle Sam!
Hope your cause is a good one and that
all your NEWS is good!
