Everybody talks about the weather.......

By the time most of you read this schools
will be closed, store shelves will have been
cleared of their supplies of bread and milk
and many, many people will have the day
off!
And why are so many people off? Why
they're celebrating of course!
We will all be home celebrating February
5th which is  "National Weatherman's Day!"
I find it especially ironic  that February
5th is also know as "Disaster Day!"
I can't think of two other "holidays" that go so
well together!
    National Weatherman's Day honors weathermen,
and woman who work hard to accurately predict the
often fickle weather. The emphasis here appears to
be on the words "work hard" as opposed to
"accurately." (Lest we forget Monday's "2 to 3
inch snowfall" that buried so many of us!)
February 5th seems to have been selected to
commemorate the birth of John Jeffries, one of America's
first weather observers, in 1774.
Weather forecasting has come a long way since
then! These days we have weather satellites, radar,
and Phil's shadow!
One local weatherman even came out wearing
a bag yesterday. I suppose he didn't want to see his
own shadow!
I've always been interested in the fact that most
every forecaster gets his or her data from that National
Weather Service. That's curious since, very often,
their forecasts differ from one another so very much.
Today, however, they're all pretty much on the
same bandwagon and are noting National Weatherman's
Day with a snow disaster! That seems only fitting!
Today is a day when all weathermen will proudly
say..."I told you so!"
Yep, everybody talks about the weather. But,
sometimes a closed mouth gathers no feet!
Hope your bread and milk hold out and that
all your NEWS is good!
