See the beauty, feel the history, taste the wine!
By now most of you have heard the jingle
that goes along with the advertisement for the
Finger Lakes Wine Country of New York State.
You are urged to "See the beauty, feel the
history, (and) taste the wine."
Well my wife and I and three other couples
have been doing our best to get the job done
during a brief visit to the region this week.
There is certainly no shortage of beauty,
history, or wine!
But each has caused me a bit of concern
as we traveled through the area over the
last couple of days!
Take the "beauty" for instance.
My buddy loves to record beauty with
his camera. And he sees it everywhere. He's
taken to holding his camera on his lap to make
sure it is literally ready at a moment's notice.
Unfortunately his lap is situated in the
Driver's seat of the car in which we are
passengers!!!!!
The thought of a sudden stop to snap a
photo of some beautiful flowers causes one
to pray the driver following behind is equally
as impressed or, at the very least, ready to stop
on a dime!
And while flowers or a sunset might be
expected to offer a "Kodak moment", it seems
a little unusual to suddenly find yourself
parked on a railroad crossing while my good
friend gets a shot down the tracks! We keep
hoping all he'll see is rails and not the
Wabash Cannonball!
The same friend had us a bit concerned
about history too. That happened as he dove
down a steep driveway in the immediate
vicinity of scientific installation along lake
Seneca. As it happens, the installation is part
of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center where,
we're told, top secret sonar equipment is
tested. I suspected if we looked too closely
we might find ourselves becoming "history!!
Several other members of our party must
have had a premonition about the afore mentioned
instances. I say that because they, probably
wisely, decided to "taste the wine" BEFORE we
took our drive!
I found myself wanting a drink afterwards!!!
Hope we don't find ourselves in the Brig
and that all your NEWS is good!
