SLY AS A FOX!
I heard some good NEWS the other day!
Our local Fox TV affiliate is in the process
of building its own News Department!
For years now the Fox station has
depended on others to produce and present
newscasts on WOLF, regional channel 56.
Initially WNEP provided the newscasts.
Then, awhile back, Nexstar, which owns
WBRE and "manages" WYOU, took over
The latest arrangement, even as a former
Nexstar employee, always bothered me.
In essence one reporter, with his or her
questions, took the place of three who
would each have had their own if each
station had an independent news department.
When WYOU, WBRE, AND WNEP
each had its own News Department you
had reporters from each trying to outdo
each other getting the facts of the stories
they were covering.
Nexstar closed down WYOU's news
operation down in 2009. When it
resumed a couple years later it was just
a rebroadcast of WBRE. The addition
of Fox just put the same reporters and
questions on a third outlet.
I'm very glad to see Fox adding
its own news gathering efforts to our
area. The public is the winner in this
story. And, No, I have not been
offered a job in the new operation.
Hey even the new guy is allowed one
Hope I see a day when WYOU
has its own independent news department
again........then ALL our NEWS will be
