  SIGHTED SUB. SANK INTO SAME!

Our visit to the Children's Hospital in
Philadelphia Thursday left us a bit tired
from the trip and hungry!
Fortunately, just across the street from
the hospital, there was "Jimmy Johns!"
Now when most people think about a
Philly Sub Sandwich they usually think
about a cheese steak. That's fine and I
would take one anytime.
   But we found some interesting
alternatives at this "Jimmy John's" place.
And a lot of other people showed up too,
making us think they knew a good place
when they found it!
That got me to thinking about all the
different names people have attached to
these kind of sandwiches.
"Sub" may be the oldest since no matter
where they're made they tend to have the shape
of a submarine. But depending on where you
live they also go my the names "wedge,
hero, or grinder.
I believe it's time to unite the country
on this issue and I have, I think, a strong
argument to support my position.
In my part of the world this type of
sandwich has always been called a
hoagie!
John Maddon, manager of the World
Series champion Chicago Cubs, is from
my part of the world. In our case Hazleton.
His mother still works at the popular "Third
Base Lunch" there. And that place is famous
for it's hoagies!
So, in honor of Mr. Maddon, his success,
and his roots, I suggest the entire country
adopt the name hoagie for these luncheon
delights!
Hope Jimmy Johns, or you, starts the ball
rolling and that all your NEWS is good!
